Through a combination of news updates, editorials, photo-journalism, video segments, reviews, and essays, our talented team will provide daily updates on the modern world and the people in it. Management

Brian Contreras, Editor-in-Chief

Brian Contreras has been interested in both politics and international affairs for many years now, and it was this fascination that drove him to establish 51st State of Mind. In serving as Editor-in-Chief, he seeks to combine his love of law and geopolitics with a dedication to journalistic integrity and free press. When not managing the site, he serves as Deputy Head Delegate of his Model United Nations team, works with his school's student government to improve internal policies, and serves his community as an Eagle Scout.

Max Segal, Deputy Editor-in-Chief

Max Segal is a student at School Without Walls with a deep devotion and care for international relations, politics, and journalism. During all his years at SWW, Max has worked to proliferate international awareness on the school and community levels. In this spirit, he co-established the International Connections Club, French Culture Club, and the SWW chapter of the French National Honor Society. Max also serves as the Community Outreach Director for the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), as well as a Deputy for the Model United Nations Club. In his free time, Max can be found translating articles from various languages or watching grade-C movies at ungodly hours of the day.
